No Country For Zimbabweans

In my last post, i put up an image of a xenophobia victim, aflame while 2 members of the SAPS look on, worse still, one officer appears to have a smile on his face. This really got me thinking about what South African law enforcement was doing to ensure the safety of these foreign residents who have been entrusted to them. It is common knowledge that when you enter another country, you are governed by the regulations of that country and you deserve all due diligence from the local constabulary and civil protection as apply to the citizens of that nation. It has come to my attention that no pictures have yet surfaced of the arrests of South African locals who perpetrated these frivolous attacks. Reports have emerged of arrests being made of 22 offenders and some claims of 40 locals arrested but there has been no pictorial evidence. The following statement i adapted from another article on the Xenophobia attacks:

" It is believed that more than 40 people linked to the violence have been arrested. Police used stun grenades and tear gas to disperse protesters on 14 April." ~ Ludovica Iaccino
SAPS officers arrest foreigner

Meanwhile, i did come across an image of the SAPS at work making an arrest. The picture on the right shows the efficient officers making an arrest. What is disconcerting however is they are arresting a foreigner who took up what appears to be a machete to defend himself against the ensuing onslaught. A comprehensive search of imagery on arrests disappointingly results in a single image of a victim being arrested.

Amid all the hype that has been generated by these attacks, a peaceful protest march was "successfully" conducted at the South African Consulate yesterday afternoon. The same march i alluded to in my previous post.

The images above show members of the ZRP riot squad ensuring the peaceful protest remains under control. It all seemed utopically surreal to say the least until a video began circulating of the squad attacking an individual from the party of protesters. In the video, at least 12 officers swarmed upon their unarmed target who is lying on the street in a foetal position. They brutally attack him with baton sticks until they feel the individual has had enough.

Zimbabwean citizens are attacked and murdered in South Africa for seeking a better life, then arrested by foreign police if they try to defend themselves. To support our fellow countryman, we are also pommeled within the confines of our own borders by our own police. This gloomy surmise reflects that our people really do not belong anywhere. The best support we have received so far in light of the attacks was from infamous South African politician Julius"Juju" Malema. Suffice it to say, our best bet is to discover an uninhabited island, relocate and install Malema as our democratic president.
